Add a sweet topping to apple pie, using this easy vanilla sauce recipe from Sara Lee. It's perfect for the holidays!
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 3 egg yolks
- Nutmeg or cinnamon for garnish
Bring all ingredients, except yolks, to a boil in a medium saucepan. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks until foamy. Stir yolks into sauce mixture and continue to heat until foam starts to appear around edge of pan. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Spoon onto center of dessert plate; place pie slice on top of sauce. Garnish with sprinkle of nutmeg or cinnamon.
